Major Weigh Down #7

lighthouse

Just to update and inform those that may not remember or know that I begun my Major Weigh Down plan in August 2012. Since beginning the weigh down series I have updated six times, showing a total loss of 43 pounds. Please read the previous updates to catch up.
As 2015 draws to an end I realize I have fallen behind on keeping you updated on my progress. In this year I became even more dedicated to my weight loss plan. I continued with my plan of “portion control” and was still determined to lose weight without drugs or surgery.
In April of 2015 I weighed in with a total lose of 58 pounds. As you see it has been a slow process. In June I decided to kick my weight loss into full gear and get rid of this weight. I set myself a goal to lose 25 more pounds by the end of July.
July-October brought with it many surprises and changes to my life. ( Please watch for the full story on that coming soon.)
I stayed faithful to my “portion control” and was pleased with the scale reading at the end of July. I had a total weight loss of 80 pounds!
First of July brought not only happiness with my weight loss, it also brought a trip to Florida to visit my son and his family. It was a thrill to be able to pack smaller clothes then I had packed the last time I went for a visit.
Please remember to check back for the rest of the story.
I wish everyone a Very Happy and Healthy 2016.

Major Weigh Down #6

I know my followers thought I surely had fallen off the weigh down wagon and let it run over me.  Shame on you !!!  LOL

Actually, I have been involved in several projects and have not really had an opportunity to post  an update in quite some time.  My weigh down journey  at times has been a roller coaster ride and not an easy task. I seem to be on the down part of the roller coaster ride and am beginning to see a weight loss again. Since I began my major weigh down journey I have lost 43 lbs. It has been slow and not easy. Slow and easy will carry me to my goal and hopefully make my long term success  greater and permanent .  I have begun to see more energy and mobility return to my life. Thank you for your encouragement and I will continue to work toward my goal and hope not to disappoint my family, my followers, my friends nor myself.

As I mentioned I have been working on some projects. I am sharing links below with you to my projects.

Major weigh down update #5

lighthouse update 2

Well the holidays came and went. Food was everywhere I looked. I attended two parties. Hosted four luncheons in my home, not to mention the wonderful family dinners. Holidays are such a wonderful, fun and loving time. In our society we always think if two or more people are together there has to be an abundance of food. This is true especially during the holidays. I tried to remember that I was on a major weigh down journey and not over indulge. O.K. I have to admit I must not have done such a great job at it. I gained 7 lbs back of the 31 lbs I had lost. I was sad when I first looked at the scale. Then with my husbands help I realized it was no big deal. I would get back on track and lose that 7 lbs and more. I plan on continuing on my major weigh down plan. I have a little something coming up in July that has reset my mind. I WILL BE GRAND MOM AGAIN. I want to lose steadily until the baby is here. I want to feel great and have lots of energy to enjoy every moment of that new life.

GMOs linked to another serious health condition

wheat

It seems you can not pick up a health magazine or read an article concerning health online without GMOs being talked about in some way. They are never talked about in a favorable light. I have yet to read anything that says GMOs are healthy and we should eat freely of the products containing them. I read today of yet another health problem that is on the rise. Gluten sensitivity cases are rising at an alarming rate and now affects 40% of all U.S. citizens. This condition has been linked to GMOs in our food. Gluten sensitivity is something that needs to be taken seriously. It can cause major intestinal problems. Problems that include diarrhea, painful gas, bloating and constipation so severe that it disrupts a persons daily routine. Headaches, depression, weight loss or weight gain and aching joints are a few other symptoms that can be excessive and severe. Children and infants are not excluded from this painful condition. As well as the other symptoms they also may experience a slow growth pattern. Keep in mind GMOs are allowed in infant formula.

Sweet Potato… Delicious and Healthy/recipe

Potatoes

I would like to invite you to follow me over the next few days as I prepare my Thanksgiving meals. I will be sharing memories, recipes and tips on preparing my Thanksgiving meal. I will be preparing meals for two different settings this Thanksgiving. My mother-in-law always begun in September preparing for the holiday meals. I do not begin that early. I usually wait until the day before. This year I have decided to begin a little bit earlier, twelve days earlier to be exact. I am going to work on some part of my meal each day. Today I am going to make sweet potato casseroles. Since this dish freezes very well, I am going to go on and make three, two for Thanksgiving meals and one for Christmas. I am going to use a recipe from a lady (Ms Vernice) who has passed on but left cooking tips and recipes in the hands of many.

Weigh down Update #3

light house 4

Well here we are in November and the beginning of the holiday season is upon us. Halloween came with all of the tempting candy showing up in the stores. I actually was able to resist the temptation of buying any delicious chocolate candy. Thanksgiving is fast approaching. This holiday will bring the tempting pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie is one my favorite desserts. I hope I will be able to resist eating this dessert in access. I do really enjoy the holidays and having the family together.

Aspartame, Leukemia?

soda can

I have a real weakness for the sweet taste of sugar. I could sit down and eat a whole bag of chocolate candy. This love of sweets is one of the main reasons I have had weight issues for the last few years. I am now on a weigh down plan. There are times I think I could sit down and eat a 100 lb piece of cake or pie. However, I have been and am determined to limit my sweets. I eat cookies made with xylitol occasionally. Xylitol is an all natural sweetener. I am determined to keep aspartame out of my diet and my body. I have heard for years how dangerous aspartame was to my health. I have been told so many times to use it in moderation and it would be safe. I was always afraid of aspartame, probably due to the fact that every time I did consume even a small amount in a drink or a cookie I would be sick in just a few minutes. It would give me headaches, nausea and diarrhea. Anything that makes you feel so bad could not be good for you. Short study after short study has been done on the danger of aspartame. How many reports have to say something causes cancer before it is believed?

GMOs in your chips defeat the Healthy Guacamole

avocado

Guacamole is probably one of my favorite snack foods. I have pretty much stopped eating it since I have been on my weigh down plan. The reason I do not eat it much is because of the added calories, fat and GMO’s in the chips that guacamole calls for. I do enjoy chopped avocado’s in my salad and sliced ones on my sandwiches. Avocados, the main ingredient in guacamole, are actually quite healthy. The fat content is a healthy fat so no problem there. Avocados are low in cholesterol and saturated fats. They offer heart health benefits and are very high in potassium and protein. So basically guacamole is a tasty way to receive healthy benefits from the avocado fruit. Lets figure out how we can cut out the not so healthy chips.

Breast Cancer is # 1 health fear

pink ribbon

Breast Cancer is the number one health fear of most women. This fear is especially great if there is a family history of breast cancer. When I found out my sister had breast cancer it brought on panic attacks, nightmares, depression, questions and FEAR. If we all sit down and think of eight women in our life statically one of them will develop breast cancer. This statistic alone can bring on fear and depression.

Olive oil is good for your health and your skin

dreamstimefree_192327

I have used olive oil for years to cook with. I only use other cooking oil when making cakes. You can purchase virgin, extra virgin or non virgin olive oil. The extra virgin olive oil is the healthiest one. It is the one that has had less chemical refining. Extra virgin is the one that is in its most natural form. Most cooks know that olive oil is the best cooking oil for heart health. It helps to lower your cholesterol and also helps control blood sugars. It actually gives protection from heart attacks and strokes. I am not saying that if you cook with olive oil you are exempt from heart disease. I am only saying it does have heart health benefits. Did you know olive oil is also good for your skin?
